I go at least twice a month. Here's what a typical day looks like:
7:00 AM — Start Early
The market opens at 8, but I'm already reviewing client requests over breakfast. Someone in the UK wants silver-toned minimalist earrings. A client in New York is looking for boho-style layered necklaces. I make a list and map out my route through the jewelry district.
9:00 AM — The Hunt Begins
District 1, Floor 2 — this is jewelry heaven. Thousands of booths, each with their own specialty. I know which suppliers have the best stainless steel, which ones do the most precise zircon settings, and who's reliable on delivery.
Today I'm looking for new earring designs. I visit 12 booths, examine hundreds of pieces, and shortlist about 20. Then comes the hard part — negotiating price and checking quality.
Quality Check Routine
For every piece that catches my eye:
- 🔍 Check the clasp mechanism — does it open and close smoothly?
- 🔍 Check the post — is it straight? Smooth? Properly attached?
- 🔍 Check the finish — any rough edges? Uneven plating?
- 🔍 Check the stones — are they secure? Properly aligned?
Out of 20 shortlisted, maybe 8 pass. The rest go back.
2:00 PM — Decisions
I've placed orders with 3 suppliers for the 8 approved designs. Each one I've worked with before, so I trust their production quality. New designs will arrive in 3-5 days for final inspection before we list them.
5:00 PM — Wrap Up
Back home, I update our product notes and message a few clients about what I found. Photos get sent, opinions shared, orders confirmed. It's 2026 and we're still doing business like it's 1996 — one relationship at a time. And honestly? I wouldn't have it any other way.
